Elena Tscherny

I am a tax advisor in Washington, D.C. and Spanish language tutor to members of Congress at the U.S. House of Representatives. I taught physics and mathematics to high school students in Peru. Later, I served as a librarian and coordinator of exhibits and programs for the D.C. Government, and was a member of the IRS Taxpayer Advocacy Panel. I hold a bachelor’s degree in education from the National Pedagogical College in Peru, and a master’s degree in library and information sciences from the Catholic University of America.

In the fall of 2017, I joined Iona’s Board of Directors. My husband is a participant in Iona’s Wellness and Arts Center. Iona’s mission is very dear to me. Through the program’s exercises, brain games, arts, music, storytelling, Memory Cafés, and more, Iona helps participants improve their physical and mental well-being. All activities are conducted by caring, qualified professionals, and assist participants in delaying memory loss, including the effects of Alzheimer’s. Every day I witness the effects of Iona’s programming; it nourishes the bodies and minds of many participants. I feel privileged to serve on Iona’s Board.
