Careers

At Iona, we celebrate successes. We encourage growth. We collaborate on challenges. And not just when it comes to the job.

It’s not uncommon for an Iona employee to say that being a part of the team is like being a part of a family. That’s because when you work for Iona, you work for an organization of passionate, kind, and talented people who genuinely care about you. We’re a dynamic and diverse group of social workers, fundraising gurus, clinical nurse care managers, advocates, data enthusiasts, program specialists, foodies, artists, theater-goers, writers, happy hour devotees, dog lovers, bakers, and much more. So what brings us together? Our shared commitment to older adults and caregivers.

If that sounds like you, we encourage you to take a look at the job and internship opportunities below. Please note that there may be times in which there are no available positions. If that’s the case, please visit our website again in the future to learn of other opportunities, or follow us on Facebook for job announcements.

Internship

Through partnerships with American University, Brown University, and the Washington Center, Iona regularly hosts semester-long, unpaid internships in a variety of fields such as advocacy, community engagement, and nonprofit development or communications. To apply, you must go through your university’s internship application or the Washington Center.

Additionally, we also offer informal internship opportunities throughout the year. These internships are a great way for you to gain valuable work experience, “test drive” a career, develop new skills, and learn more about aging services and advocacy in Washington, DC.

Our internships run the gamut — you can practice your programmatic skills working directly with older adults in our Active Wellness Program at St. Alban’s or Wellness & Arts Center; expand your writing, marketing, and graphic design resume on our Development or Communications teams; network with key players and develop a strong advocacy voice with the Long Term Care Coalition; connect with farmers and discover the sustainable and local food system with our Nutrition team, and so much more!

To apply, send your resume and cover letter outlining your interests and goals to Tania Sechriest at [email protected].

Internship for social workers

If you are a BSW or MSW social work student, Iona also offers field placements in clinical, macro, or combined programs of study. We also have a summer internship program for social work students or recent graduates who would like some additional supervised experience. For more information on these opportunities contact our Clinical Manager Catherine Paitz at [email protected].

Being at Iona, I got to see a whole community of caring professionals. I found that everyone really showed that they care about this place. Before this internship, I didn’t know that work could be something so inspiring and heartfelt.
