Opera Gems: La straniera and Maria di Rohan

Please join us at Iona on Monday, November 13, 2017 at 2:00 PM for an engaging and enlightening lecture with Washington Concert Opera (WCO) co-founder Peter Russell. The lecture will explore WCO’s upcoming performances of La straniera and Maria di Rohan.

About the operas:

La straniera

Inspired by true events during the 12th century, La straniera tells the tale of a French King’s scandalous divorce from a Danish princess and his subsequent marriage to a mysterious foreign woman (“la straniera”), kept tucked away in a wooded cottage.

Maria di Rohan

A classic love triangle with a tragic twist, Maria di Rohan follows the story of a woman torn between the man she loves and the man to whom she is secretly married. Duels, love letters, underground tunnels, and political intrigue ensue.
